Through a combination of lecture and in-class discussion activities, we will examine how psychological researchers find out new ‘stuff’ about human behavior! Among other topics, we will discuss the basic principles and methods of research design, hypothesis testing, data collection and analysis, and how to interpret the results of research.
Although not every student who takes this course plans on becoming a researcher, it’s important for anyone who works with psychological ideas – including therapists and counselors – to understand how to make sense of others’ research findings, and the best way to learn to how to evaluate research is by learning how to conduct research. Understanding the steps of the process, and the challenges and limitations of any research study, makes you a better consumer of research.
Prerequisites: PSYC 2301 and PSYC 2401.
